Root Canal Treatment
During root canal or endodontic treatment, the inflamed or infected pulp is removed and the inside of the tooth is carefully cleaned and disinfected, then filled and sealed. Afterwards, the tooth is restored with a crown or filling for protection.
With proper care, even teeth that have had root canal treatment can last a lifetime. But sometimes, a tooth that has been treated doesn't heal properly and can become painful or diseased months or even years after treatment.
Cone Beam Computed Tomography
Cone beam computed tomography is a medical imaging technique consisting of X-ray computed tomography where the X-rays are divergent, forming a cone. We use this advanced technology in our practice.
Cracked teetch, apart from if they were received accidentially, refer to cracks extending from the chewing surface vertically toward the root. Early diagnosis is important in this case to save the tooth. A cracked tooth left untreated will get worse as time goes by and can result in a loss of the tooth. Early treatment is essential.

Endodontic therapy or root canal therapy is a sequence of treatment for the infected pulp of a tooth which results in the elimination of infection and the protection of the decontaminated tooth from future microbial invasion. Root canals, and their associated pulp chamber, are the physical hollows within a tooth that are naturally inhabited by nerve tissue, blood vessels and other cellular entities. Together, these items constitute the dental pulp. Endodontic therapy involves the removal of these structures, the subsequent shaping, cleaning, and decontamination of the hollows with small files and irrigating solutions, and the obturation (filling) of the decontaminated canals.
Endodontic retreatment describes a dental root canal procedure that is carried out on a tooth that has previously had root canal treatment. For this reason it is also called "repeat root canal treatment". One reason for endodontic retreatment is failure of the initial endodontic procedure: Recurrence of symptoms, infection such as dental abscess may occur. Endodontic treatment may fail for many reasons: one common reason for failure is inadequate chemomechanical debridement of the root canal. This may be due to poor endodontic access, missed anatomy or inadequate shaping of the canal, particularly in the apical third of the root canal.
Murray Hill Endodontics uses the latest technologies available. We now use use cone-beam CT scanning with a state of the art machine that allow more efficient, scientific measurements to be taken of the dimensions of the root canal. In the last ten to twenty years, there have been great innovations in the art and science of root canal therapy. Root canal therapy has become more automated and can be performed faster thanks, in part, to machine driven rotary technology and more advanced root canal filling methods. Many root canal procedures are done in one dental visit which may last for around 1–2 hours.
Cracked teeth show a variety of symptoms, including erratic pain when chewing, possibly with release of biting pressure, or pain when your tooth is exposed to temperature extremes. In many cases, the pain may come and go, and your dentist may have difficulty locating which tooth is causing the discomfort. The treatment and outcome for your tooth depends on the type, location and extent of the crack. If you think you have a cracked tooth, it's important to seek treatment quickly, before the problem gets worse. Once treated, most cracked teeth continue to function and provide years of comfortable chewing. Through early detection and treatment, endodontists help patients avoid tooth extraction.

"I agree with all the comments concerning Dr. Tina Vani's professionalism, patience and kindness. While it was a root canal procedure, this appointment was the best dentist visit I have had! Aside from the fact that it was PAIN-FREE, she was understanding and considerate. She kept me up-to-date with each step of the procedure and checked-in to ensure I was feeling well. After 45 minutes, I was out the door!! I wish she could take care of all dental needs, including regular teeth cleaning. I would be there!
